Meet Lola

Take 5 with… Lola!

At Made Home we take great pride in offering more than just another service. Our team is made up of some of the loveliest, most genuine folk around. They will not only guide you through your process gently, but will also bring the laughs, a listening ear and sometimes a ruthless “but, do you really need three salad spinners?”

Today we would like for you to meet the lovely Lola; mum to 2 rascals (and the floofiest fur baby you’ll ever meet), self confessed non-minimalist and one of the original MH gals.

If you were a drink, what would you be and why?

A glass of good Shiraz! I’m deep, full bodied and just a little bit fruity. I’m also great at a party or a quiet night on the lounge!

Who is your hero?

My mum is my hero. She’s just amazing.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Follow your instincts and be yourself, even when it’s not popular. Wise words from my mum.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

In a tree house, somewhere near a secluded lagoon with vines and tropical flowers.

If you could time travel to any era in history (or to come), what time would you choose?

It’s less a year and more of a decade - but the late 40’s, early 50’s! For the music and dancing and fashion!

What is your favourite way to spend a long weekend?

In the Blue Mountains (Leura specifically) with my extended family. It has to have an open fire, a delicious roast dinner, lots of window shopping, a spot of cards or board games and definitely a good book.

You’re one of the longest standing MH team members, can you tell us what do you love most about working at MH?

I was first attracted to the business because at the time I had just helped my Nanna sort through her house that she had lived in for 60 years. She was pretty depressed for the six months that it took to prepare her house for sale. But the day we moved her into her new downsized home, it was like she was ten years younger. I love be a part of that journey for people and families. Home is so important. It gives context to our lives. It’s such a privilege to be a part of helping our clients achieve great results so that they can move on to their next chapters. I also love making spaces inviting enough for new owners and families to fall in love with our clients’ houses, enough to want to live there.

Can you describe your greatest MH achievement?

It’s not a specific achievement, but I love the feeling of transformation. From walking into a house that is full of decades worth of clutter (some meaningful and necessary - I’m not a minimalist), then taking it to the point of sale, displaying the house in the best way possible and preparing it for its new chapter. I love that sense of accomplishment.

Aside from working at MH, what else fills your cup?

Firstly, my family. My gorgeous husband, Pete, my 2 kids Elodie and River and my dog, Pippi. I also am a floral stylist that has focused on weddings and events. And I cook. I’m the sous chef for a caterer that does in home functions. Oh and being in houses and having parties! I think I just like gathering people and having a beautiful time together.

If you had to recall one of your favourite moments of MH, what would it be?

I can’t go into too much detail, but finding a very valuable piece of jewellery that a client had put into her Donate pile. I insisted that we needed to obtain an evaluation (even though our client was convinced that it wasn’t anything special) and we were able to take the piece back with an evaluation with a decent amount of zeros.

The whole family was thrilled. It was the long lost family piece that had been misplaced, many years before.

That felt REALLY good.

I love finding treasures that so many others overlook because it’s not their taste or just don’t realise the value. I always love the look on our clients faces when I let them know that their artwork is worth thousands or that their sideboards that have been in the family for decades are highly collectable. Every time that happens, it’s gives me a buzz!

On top of that, there are plenty of really incredible moments within our team. Lots of laughter and funny stories!

Thanks for sharing about yourself Lola, we are so grateful to have you on the MH Team! If you’d like to know more about how Lola and the team can help you with your next move, please reach out and have a chat today.
